NFL Protesters Now Targeting Second Amendment and Gun Owners Are Livid

Last month, JPMorgan released to their clients an analysis of the National Football League’s ratings, and the prognosis was not good. Not surprisingly, with all the controversy that the league is involved in, the story did not gain much attention in the mainstream media. However, advertisers and investors are paying attention, and they do not like what they see. So-called analysts can’t figure out why ratings for the NFL are so bad, but perhaps it is due to them missing the obvious, that fans are upset over players taking a knee, the disrespect toward the national anthem, and NFL Commissioner Rodger Goodell’s poor leadership. All of this has had serious financial implications.

JPMorgan cited that as of week 6 of the 2017 season, “Football ratings have declined in five out of the six weeks so far this season. Ratings are down 6 percent season to date this year after a 12 percent drop last year through NFL’s week six.” What should be concerning NFL executives and Rodger Goodell is that these poor ratings, compounded with multiple advertisers pulling their support for the NFL, has forced Wall Street to “reduce its profit forecasts for the owners of major television networks.” Translation– the NFL is bleeding money, and they are more interested in social justice than football.

Case in point, the San Francisco 49’ers have donated $500,000 to an anti-gun initiative, making a big deal out of the fact that several police unions have joined them in their effort. The 49’ers and their police union consortium released a statement saying, “The duty of law enforcement must also include actively participating in bringing our nation together and working to foster a more understanding and compassionate national dialogue around community and police officer relations. We believe that professional sports teams should utilize their capacity to reach millions of Americans to promote initiatives that help law enforcement professionals and citizens they serve understand their respective experiences and to listen to one another with an open mind and heart.”

This statement is flawed and lacks any common sense. The duty of law enforcement is to protect the citizenry and to uphold and follow the United States Constitution, not subvert it. Perhaps this California police union consortium would be better served actually enforcing the law, removing illegal immigrants, and not attempting to disarm law-abiding citizens. Just in case the 49’ers and these police unions have not received the memo, criminals don’t follow the law and will gain access to firearms regardless of overbearing gun control restrictions. Additionally, professional sports teams are not tasked with promoting politics of any sort, left or right. Fans watch professional sports teams for the distraction from the nonsense of everyday life. When these teams like the 49’ers for example engage in politics, it leaves fans angry. This anger has translated into the NFL losing advertisers, money, and a significant portion of their fan base. The 49’ers and their liberal cohorts are not interested in an open dialogue, and they are not interested in listening to their fans. They’d rather continue to dig themselves into financial ruin.

The liberal media for their part has attempted to turn this into a fight between President Donald Trump and the NFL. However, what these guardians of real news fail to understand is that the fight is between the fans (or former fans) and the NFL. The President is simply voicing the feelings of so many Americans and what they think about players taking a knee during the national anthem.

It seems that common sense and logic does not exist in the NFL. They obviously don’t understand how the free market works and the consequences of alienating a large portion of your target market. Meanwhile, Rodger Goodell has requested an increase in his salary to $50 million a year, and for the life of me, I can’t figure out what he does daily that would warrant such a ridiculous salary, considering his leadership is substandard at best. Maybe Rodger sees the writing on the wall and is trying to pillage the coffers before he abandons the league he helped to destroy?

The NFL and teams like the 49’ers have to understand that they have spit in the face of their fans, and their lack of repentance has driven fans away for good. The NFL forgot that most of their fans are loyal to God and country first. Fans can live without the NFL, but the NFL needs to realize they can’t survive without the fans.
